There is currently an undeniable demand for nurses all over the world. In the United States, the demand is projected to increase employment by a significant percentage much higher than peer professions. For those who like to be practical in their career choices, nursing seems to be the best degree to have in order to take advantage of the current demand. Potential nurses need not worry about how they can fund their nursing education because there are an unbelievable number of academic aid foundations willing to assist them. Nursing scholarships are everywhere that it is no longer an issue of trying to search for one but more of a predicament as to which to choose.
Nursing Scholarships – List
- A Nurse I Am Scholarship
The scholarship caters to students enrolled in nursing degrees specifically LPN/LVN, ADN, BSN or RN to BSN programs. To be eligible for the $2000 endowment, applicants should be a United States citizen accepted in a nursing course within the country. The competition for this award is very high but aside from the requirements mentioned, applicants will only have to watch an educational documentary and compose an essay answering two questions.
2. Caroline E. Holt Nursing Scholarship
The CEH nursing scholarships have endowments that range from $500 to $1000 depending on the availability. An applicant must be a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution where they can request for the required letter of sponsorship. He or she must already be accepted into an accredited nursing school. The deadline for applications is March 15 every year.
3. National Black Nurses Association Scholarships
This scholarship gives a nursing grant of $500 to $2000 providing candidates are enrolled in a nursing program, a member of the NBNA and only has a year remaining to complete it. All applications must be submitted by April 15.
4. National Association of Hispanic Nurses Scholarships
Every year, the NAHN gives an impressive $5,000 grant to successful applicants enrolled in graduate and undergraduate nursing levels. Aside from the requirement to be a member of the NAHN, aspiring awardees are also screen based on their merit, skills and goals.
5. Army Nurse Corps Association Scholarship Program
The $3,000 education fund from this scholarship is given only to those who are eligible. These are applicants who have plans to join the army, have previously been in the army, enlisted soldiers and are spouses of those serving in the army. Similar to NBNA scholarship, all applications should be in by April 15 to be considered.
6. American Indian Nurse Scholarship Awards
The Colonial Dames of America is responsible for providing the $500 to $1000 nursing scholarships every year to qualified American Indians taking nursing degrees. Apart from being American Indian, it is important to have a high school diploma, good academic standing with recommendation from counselors or teachers and in dire need of financial aid. The foundation also looks into the student’s ability to maintain excellent scholastic performance throughout the 4 years in college and a goal to help the Indian people.
7. Perinatal Nursing Graduate Scholarships
The scholarship was established by the March of Dimes that provides a $5000 fund to candidates who excel in the field of nursing care of mothers and infants. Interestingly, the foundation partners with Pampers and Evenflo to make this academic grant a reality. An eligible awardee should be a registered nurse enrolled in one of the maternal-child graduate programs with only an academic term left in the course. The deadline for submissions is every January 15.
“Numerous” may not be the appropriate term to justify the hundreds of Nursing Scholarships available today. The ones mentioned above is just the tip of the iceberg that is nursing academic grants so always do proper research before making a decision.
